WorleyParsons win Mongolian EPCM contract

WorleyParsons have been awarded contract for a concentrator at a Mongolian copper molybdenum mine.

The engineering, procurement and construction management contract is for the delivery of the Tsagaan Suvarga concentrator project for the Mongolyn Alt Corporation (MAK).

It is worth approximately $65 million.

MAK is the largest private company in Mongolia.

The Tsagaan Suvarga project is located in Southern Mongolia and includes a 14.6 million tonne per annum copper molybdenum concentrator and associated infrastructure such as a 280 kilometre power line.

WorleyParsons’ CEO John Grill said "having recently opened an office in Ulaan Baatar, WorleyParsons is committed to securing a long term presence in Mongolia and playing a major role in the development of Mongolia’s natural resources and infrastructure – this EPCM contract award supports this strategy".

WorleyParsons is not the first Australian contractor to start operating in Mongolia.

Last year Sedgman won a contract to install a coal wash plant at the Uhkaa Khudag mine, which is the first large scale coal mine in the country.

Macmahon has also won the contract to carry out mining at the massive Tavan Tolgoi coal mine.

Mongolia has been touted as one of the world’s next major hotspots for mining due to its extremely under developed deposits.
