A DEPARTMENT of Mines and Energy (DME) safety alert warns maintenance workers to be aware of workshop hazards.
The mines inspectorate released the alert after a contractor received extensive head injuries when a workshop floor pad was forcefully ejected from beneath a front end loader bucket.
The contractor was in the process of setting up the loader in a workshop to carry out maintenance, according to the alert.
The DME recommends all mines should review their maintenance practices to ensure systems of work are safe and without risk.
According to the alert, workers should be provided with information, instruction, training and supervision as may be necessary to ensure their health and safety.
