Wisely wins BMA maintenance contract in Bowen Basin

BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) has awarded Wisely Group with a three-year maintenance contract at the Blackwater coal mine in the Bowen Basin, Queensland.

The Mackay-based asset management and services company will start maintenance operations at the metallurgical coal operation later this month.

Wisely will provide employment for about 150 people through the contract.

The workers will be engaged to maintain a fleet of specialised heavy mining equipment on a 24-hour, seven-day week, 365-day basis.

Wisely Services general manager Paul Hannay said the company had been delivering an infrastructure and services contract employing approximately 65 full-time employees at Blackwater since July 2015.

“The expansion of our footprint on site is attributed to the great work our team of people has been delivering for our client,” Hannay said.

He added the contract would provide much-needed permanent employment for people in the region.

“Our focus on our people’s safety and wellbeing forms the backbone of everything we do at Wisely and we look forward to the next three years supporting our client through genuine business partnerships,” Hannay said.

The mine, which has been operated by BHP for more than 50 years, is 21km south of the Blackwater township in the Bowen Basin.
