Weir has secured a major order from Lloyds Metals and Energy to supply positive displacement pumps for the second phase of a large-scale iron ore slurry pipeline project in India.

The order, secured in the first quarter of 2026, will see Weir supply 14 GEHO TZPM 2000 positive displacement (PD) pumps equipped with the GLORES (GEHO Load Reduction System) for Lloyds Metals’ Surjagarh mine in Maharashtra.

Lloyds Metals holds government-approved mining rights for approximately 56 million tonnes of iron ore per annum.

The second phase of the slurry pipeline project will extend the pipeline by approximately 200 km and add a further 16 million tonnes of annual transport capacity.

According to Lloyds Metals, the pipeline solution is expected to avoid 69 per cent of carbon emissions compared with road transport, providing a cleaner and more sustainable logistics option.

Weir previously supplied pumps for the project’s first phase, which comprised a 100 km pipeline with a capacity of 10 million tonnes per year. That pipeline is now fully operational.

Weir global product manager, GEHO, Tony Hendriks said the latest contract reinforced the company’s position in long-distance slurry transport technology.

“This win shows the strength of our technology,” Hendriks said.

“GEHO TZPM 2000 PD pumps are purpose built for high-pressure, long-distance slurry pipelines. This proven, high-capacity slurry pump technology supports Lloyds Metals’ planned future capacity increases without introducing additional technical risk, while also helping them achieve their objective to reduce their dependence on conventional logistics and leverage slurry transport to reduce both costs and carbon emissions.”

Weir Indian regional manager, GEHO, Pushpal Banerjee said the companies had built a strong relationship through collaboration on the project.

“Working closely together, we’ve devised a blueprint for success built on early engagement, collaboration and solid technical work,” Banerjee said.

Lloyds Metals director – projects P R Prasad said the successful delivery of the first phase gave the company confidence in continuing its partnership with Weir.

“We have full confidence in the GEHO technology and the addition of GLORES further enhanced pump performance and reassured us that it was the best solution on the market,” Prasad said.
