WDS wins BHP coal contract

WDS has been awarded a contract for BHP Billiton's Dendrobium coal mine.

According to WDS the one year contract is for the provision of underground mining services.

Worth around $12 million, WDS CEO Terry Chapman explained that there is also the option of an extension of work into a second year.

The contractor "anticipates a seamless transition from the current works as crews are already mobilised at [the] Dendrobium mine".

Chapman added that that company is "pleased to continue our works at Dendrobium… this project will continue our relationship with BHP Billiton Illawarra Coal.

"WDS has undertaken a range of materials handling and mining services projects for BHP for more than ten years, including the initial construction and development of the Dendrobium mine," Chapman said.
