The Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) has opened a new office in Queen Street, Melbourne.
The opening is the final chapter of the 2004 merger of the former Victorian Minerals and Energy Council with the MCA. Victoria’s State Government announced a $5 million exploration initiative at the opening.
The initiative includes $2.5 million funding over 4 years for explorers drilling in parts of the State where there has been little exploration.
The first of three rounds of the funding will open on 26 November 2007 and close on 11 January 2008.
The initiative also includes $2.5 million to develop of a 3D geological model of Victoria.
“The minerals industry in Victoria accounts for around $5 billion of the States Gross State Production and employs 10,000 people,” MCA Board member Graeme Hunt said.
