ALLU products help transform waste from quarrying and mining into potential revenue thanks to catching byproduct and turning it into saleable material.
Across the quarrying sector, operators regularly face the same operational dilemma: what to do with mixed residual materials consisting of oversized stone fragments, clay-bound fines and inconsistent particle sizes. These materials often accumulate in stockpiles, tying up space, increasing handling costs and offering little apparent commercial value.
Rather than viewing this material as waste, one quarry operator identified an opportunity. By fitting an ALLU Transformer DH3-23 TS35 screening bucket to a CAT 336 excavator, the site was able to convert previously unmarketable byproducts into saleable materials, generating both financial and environmental gains.
Screening and separation in three simple steps
The ALLU Transformer DH3-23 TS35 provided a compact, one-step screening solution directly at the material source.
First, mixed quarry waste was collected from stockpiles using the CAT 336 excavator equipped with the ALLU screening bucket. The bucket then separated the material by size: oversized stone (greater than 3 cm) was screened out, while fine material (less than 3 cm) passed through, producing a consistent fraction suitable for reuse.
The separated materials were then repurposed. Larger stones re-entered the supply chain as saleable product, while finer fractions were used for road construction and site rehabilitation works.
The results
By separating larger stones for resale and finer materials for civil and rehabilitation applications, the quarry achieved dual benefits: improved profitability and enhanced sustainability.
The process increased the market value of the recovered stone. Instead of sitting idle in waste piles, the material now generates an additional revenue stream. On-site processing also eliminated the need to transport material for disposal, reducing associated costs.
Reusing finer materials in civil works and rehabilitation projects supports sustainable land restoration and reduces overall waste accumulation.
This case demonstrates that with the right equipment, materials once considered waste can become valuable resources, enhancing both operational efficiency and environmental performance.
Global reach, local support
Manufactured in Finland, ALLU buckets are built for efficiency and durability. From screening and separating to crushing, mixing and loading, ALLU buckets are engineered to process a wide range of materials and transform them into reusable or saleable resources.
Designed to suit carriers from 2-tonne mini excavators through to 120-tonne, the ALLU range delivers scalable solutions for construction, mining, agriculture and recycling operations alike.
With distribution in over 30 countries, ALLU products are readily available across Australia through an authorised dealership network that also provides maintenance and support.
