True North Copper is currently recruiting new workers as it nears first production at the Cloncurry copper project in north-west Queensland.
The company has launched a recruitment drive to support its objectives at Cloncurry, as it looks to appoint a substantial number of personnel for the Great Australia Mine and Wallace North deposit by mid-October.
Specifically, True North is currently looking for health, safety and training advisors, an executive assistant and communications specialist, an environmental advisor and multi-skilled operators.
“True North Copper’s recruitment drive in Queensland is gathering momentum alongside the ramp up of mining activities at Wallace North, part of the Cloncurry copper project,” True North managing director Bevan Jones said.
“Our workforce numbers at the Great Australia Mine and Wallace North currently stand at almost 60 employees. However, True North Copper plans to grow this number significantly over the next month and beyond. To support our ramp up at Cloncurry and the future operations, we intend to recruit up to 100 people by the end of 2024.”
True North has achieved a lot to ensure it’s currently on track to become Australia’s next copper producer and critical metals supplier in the first quarter 2025.
Earlier this month, first oxide ore was delivered from the Wallace North deposit. The ore has been transported to the Great Australia Mine for crushing, with stacking on the leach pad set to commence in October.
Mining activities at Wallace North have also ramped up in line with the Cloncurry mine plan, with approximately 6000 tonnes of oxide ore mined and stockpiled at the site’s run-of-mine facility.
The Cloncurry restart is expected to generate free cash flow of approximately $200 million over its initial 4.6-year mine life, based on current copper prices.
To keep Cloncurry on track, Jones said True North is recruiting new workers from local communities near Cloncurry but will expand its recruitment to areas such as Queensland, Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane.
“Over half of our current workforce are from Mt Isa and Cloncurry and we have arrangements in place for employees working in a FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) arrangement,” Jones said.
“As a North Queensland-based company, True North Copper is committed to providing opportunities for the communities in which it operates, such as these exciting job openings at Cloncurry.”
