Brett Miller is a finalist in the 5th Annual Australian Mining Prospect Awards. Miller applied and was one of the eight students accepted in the second intake of Oxiana’s Prominent Hill Pre-employment Training Program.
Prior to commencing the program Miller had no previous mining experience. Miller had spent the previous two years in a caring role and was looking for a new opportunity to take on a challenge and a career.
Miller decided to take up the challenge and start his career in mining by taking the first step and applying for the Prominent Hill Pre-employment Training Program.
With no previous mining experience Miller steadily progressed and developed through the 60 day program, which included three weeks of work experience on site at Prominent Hill.
During the program Miller was eager to learn and take on his new career in mining with gusto.
He always had three questions ready to ask and even became a mentor to one of the young Indigenous students in the group.
Miller is described by his peers as a quiet and gentle man who is very considerate and conscientious.
He has very good attention to detail and is said to be very fussy when it comes to his work.
He is never afraid to ask questions and develop his skills.
According to Oxiana, Miller demonstrates Oxiana’s
core values. Oxiana’s core values (respect, action, performance, openness) are the spirit of the organisation and serve as the guidelines for the behaviour, decision-making and actions of each Oxiana employee.
Oxiana offered Miller a job following his traineeship.
Throughout his traineship he has shown that he is a worthy employee with the necessary drive and dedication to achieve unparalled success. Miller has shown that with a little know-how and a lot of hard work anything is possible.
