True North Copper (TNC) has delivered one of Australia’s strongest copper intercepts, with fresh drilling at its Mt Oxide project confirming Aquila as a rapidly expanding high-grade discovery.
The headline result came from hole MOX255, which returned 7 metres at nearly 8 per cent copper within a broader 59 metres at 1.77 per cent copper. The interval also included 33 metres at 2.83 per cent copper, marking the company’s most significant hit to date.
“We’ve just hit one of the strongest copper intercepts reported in Australia from a new discovery this year,” TNC said in an investor update.
Additional intercepts strengthened the case for a major system, including 23 metres at 1.09 per cent copper in MOX256, with 8 metres at 2.71 per cent copper, and 26 metres at 0.67 per cent copper in MOX258.
The results extend the Aquila mineralised trend to more than 700 metres of strike length. Mineralisation remains open in all directions, with early drilling confirming multiple high-grade shoots within a continuous copper-cobalt-silver system.
True North said Aquila now bears the hallmarks of a substantial mineral system comparable to significant deposits across the Mt Isa Inlier.
“Discoveries of this grade and scale in the Mt Isa region are rare, and it’s the kind of find an exploration geologist can spend a career looking for,” TNC managing director and chief executive officer Andrew Mooney said.
“Aquila appears to have the grade, scale and continuity that we’ve long believed was repeated along the trend which already hosts the existing high-grade Vero resource.
“We now have both a significant strike length delineated and new evidence of a high-grade shoot – along with clear additional new targets for an expanded 2026 drilling program post the summer wet season.”
The Phase 2 program has now wrapped up, completing 26 holes for 7,074 metres. Assays for 12 holes are still pending, with more results expected before year’s end.
Planning for a follow-up and extensional drilling campaign in 2026 is underway, targeting deeper high-grade zones at Aquila and testing additional opportunities along the Apollo and Acanthis trends.
With Aquila continuing to grow, True North believes further high-grade copper shoots are likely still to be uncovered.
