The Women in Industry Awards returns in 2025 to champion the achievements of women making an impact across various sectors.
The annual Women in Industry Awards are returning to celebrate women making their mark in key industrial sectors.
The event aims to honour women who are driving change in industries such as construction, energy, manufacturing, resources, engineering and transport.
Ahead of the 2025 event, Australian Mining reflects on last year’s Mining Excellence Award winner, Sinead Booth, group manager, decarbonisation delivery at Fortescue.
With a decade of both and global experience behind her, Booth has spearheaded game-changing programs at Fortescue and the broader mining industry.
At the 2024 awards, Booth said she was committed to driving change towards a greener industry while closing the gender gap.
“I feel extremely privileged to win the Mining Excellence Award,” she said at the time. “There is incredible work happening across the mining industry and I feel lucky that I get to play this little role in making the mining industry greener. Not a day goes by where we rest on our laurels. We drive change ourselves. I’ve only been here just over a year, but I already feel like I’ve found my home at Fortescue, everyone here is completely dedicated to the mission.”
Forging a greener path
With a focus on decarbonisation, Booth has made strides towards pushing Fortescue to the top of the ladder for leading sustainable mining practices.
“It will become a critical focus for the mining industry over the next decade, and at Fortescue we are definitely forging a path of greening the industry,” she said

Booth’s unwavering commitment to meeting Fortescue’s pivotal mandate is being executed within the company’s integration to green equipment and systems.
Transformative initiatives fronted by Booth, such as the introduction of battery-electric mobile equipment and locomotives, emulates her commitment to eliminating emissions at Fortescue’s iron ore operations in the Pilbara.
Bridging the gender gap
Booth has also pioneered initiatives to bridge the industry gap in gender disparities and equity.
“Having women represented in the mining industry has always been a driving force for me,” Booth said. “That’s why Fortescue is the perfect place for me, because it sings to both passions I have around equality and decarbonisation.”
Booth has not only epitomised excellence and innovation in the mining industry but has also led the Gomo Foundation, which aims to educate disadvantaged women in Africa, underpinning her dedication to shaping equality and sustainability.
Booth’s mission to inspire and support women, foster diversity and cut emissions at Fortescue has helped shape the company but also set a precedent for the broader mining community.
“You can’t be a leader unless people are willing to follow you,” Booth said.
Other proud 2024 winners include Derelle Mitchell, who took home both the Woman of the Year and Excellence in Manufacturing awards, while the Business Development Success of the Year Award went to Sandra Robinson and the Rising Star of the Year Award went to Kate Leone.
The Women in Industry Awards provide leading companies with the chance to shine a light on women who are inspiring excellence and leading companies in their respective workplaces and industries.
