Sexual harassment in mining

The Western Australian inquiry into sexual harassment in the state has found that the mining industry perpetuated a culture that failed to protect women employees, who continued to face sexual harassment and sexual assault at various sites.

An independent expert has been appointed to review the Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety’s (DMIRS) protocols for responding to incidents of sexual harassment and sexual assault in the mining industry.

The Australian Human Rights Commission has found that 40 per cent of workers in the mining sector experienced sexual harassment in the past five years.
