Swick wins mining contracts

Swick has been awarded two new underground mining contracts.

The company has won underground diamond drilling contracts at Independence Group’s Jaguar and Nova mines.

The Nova project contains the world-class nickel copper Nova-Bollinger deposit, while Jaguar is a high grade zinc, copper, silver mine north of Kalgoorlie.

While a valuation was not given for the contracts, it is understood Swick will initially deploy four rigs across the sites from April.

The work is tenured for one year, with an option to extend for an additional year.

Speaking on the contract, Swick’s managing director Kent Swick said the company is “proud to be selected as the preferred underground diamond driller by Independence Group (IGO) across these two sites”.

“IGO is an excellent client with high standards and maintains good working relationships with its contractors; their strong focus on safety and operational efficiency aligns with our culture and we look forward to commencing the drilling.”

Upon starting the contract, this work plus the recently commenced KCGM contract with Newmont will see Swick’s rig utilisation stand at approximately 76 per cent, or 59 rigs contracted out of 78 in total, bringing its order book to $130 million of contracted work in hand.
