The mining, resources and energy sector experienced the largest advertising growth of all industries on online recruitment portal Seek in April.
Seek Australia and New Zealand managing director Michael Ilczynski said job advertisements for the mining, resources and energy sector were up 55 per cent year on year in April. Across all industries, there were 6.6 per cent more jobs advertised year on year.
The growth in advertising identified by Seek for the mining, resources and energy sector continues an ongoing trend for the industry in 2017. Earlier this year, Seek reported that ad growth for the sector was 66 per cent higher year on year in February.
“For the past five years, the mining, resources and energy sector has been among the industries with the lowest job ad growth on Seek, so this is very encouraging news for people looking at working in this industry, or those looking to develop their career in this industry,” Ilczynski said.
“This latest advertising growth on Seek for the mining, resources and energy industry is not just isolated to April. Over the past three months [February to April 2017], advertising across Australia for this industry has risen 70 per cent year on year, when compared to the corresponding period in 2016.
“This improvement, while off a low base, also reflects the sharp increases in prices of Australia’s largest resources, coal and iron ore, though some of these rises have since partially reversed.”
According to Seek, the fields where mining, resources and energy professionals were most sought after across Australia this April, and their average advertised annual salaries on the site were: mining engineering and maintenance ($123,445), mining operations ($113,451), and mining drill and blast ($107,138).
In Western Australia, total new job ads across the state rose 12.7 per cent year on year in April.
“The industry offering the most job opportunities across WA this April was mining, resources and energy, which mirrored the national trend by being the sector that enjoyed the largest advertising growth across the state this April, rising 60 per cent year on year,” Ilczynski continued.
This Seek fields with the greatest demand for labour in mining, resources and energy in WA this April, and their average advertised annual salaries were: mining engineering and maintenance ($126,465), mining operations ($111,973), and mining drill and blast ($104,455).
