230 Solid Energy workers at Spring Creek mine, near Greymouth, have been left without jobs as the mine's operations have been put on hold.
Business Day reports that the jobs to go include 162 corporate and support jobs to go will include admin, sales, communications, and research roles.
The company is examining leasing out space at its Christchurch offices to other companies.
16 staff will be selected from the 230 to be kept on to maintain operations until the mine is reopened.
