Simulator research grant

MINING industry skills training has received a $5 million dollar boost.

The Federal Government will provide $5 million towards a $9 million Mining Simulator Research, Development and Training Centre in Mackay.

The centre will be located at Central Queensland University’s (CQU) Mackay campus.

“The University will be engaging with the Mining Industry Skills Centre (MISC) in a range of research programs,” CQU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Jennelle Kyd said.

The grant will build a 1250 m2 building to house the Simulator Research Development and Training Centre.

It is expected that a second stage $10 m investment from non-government sources will increase the size of the facility within the next 5 years.
