Simulator improves tyre life

Immersive Technologies has provided the world’s second largest producer of hard coking coal, Elk Valley Coal, Advanced Equipment (AE) Simulators for operator training.

According to the company, the equipment will positively influence training at Elk Valley Coal’s six Canadian operations, five of which are in south-eastern British Columbia and the sixth in west-central Alberta.

Elk Valley Coal purchased one AE Simulator, a Caterpillar 793C, in May 2007 for their Fording River operation.

The simulator proved so effective during training that Elk Valley Coal purchased a further five AE Simulator units and 10 simulator modules including a Light Vehicle Simulator in May 2008 to cover their other operations.

Elk Valley Coal became the first company globally to deploy AE Simulator technology to each of their operations for 100% coverage.

They are looking forward to repeating the early success received at Fording River, which more than doubled tyre life following the implementation of the Advanced Equipment Simulator.

According to Cook, the equipment provided by Immersive Technologies helped Elk Valley Coal realise tangible benefits very quickly – tyre life has improved significantly and the equipment allows both unskilled and skilled employees to be trained much faster while in the simulator’s safe learning environment.
