Simulation centre opens doors

A simulation research centre will open its doors in Mackay on Friday to promote simulation as an essential training tool in the resources industry.

The Australian Simulation Research Office (ASRO) will increase the use and availability of simulation in the industry and work towards improving training standards among the Australian resources industry.

The Mining Industry Skills Centre CEO Derek Hunter said the centre is a major step forward to produce a skilled workforce with an industry culture of zero harm.

“The Skills Centre acknowledges simulation as an integral part of training and skilling for the future of the resources industry,” he said.

“The development of a Simulation Research Office is imperative for the industry, especially during this economic downturn as simulation is proven to reduce training costs for companies.”

The ASRO centre will be the first of its kind and is expected to be a leading training development facility on a global stage.

The Mining Industry Skills Centre and CQUniversity will officially open the ASRO office at CQUniversity’s Mackay campus on 15 May 2009.
