Shovel shapes up

VR Steel has designed a rope shovel dipper with a unique shape that boosts filling capacity.

The VR Dipper shovel has a dual latching system that reduces maintenance and operating costs per tonne.

The Trapezoidal-shaped shovel is said to enhance filling capacity and increase the shovel’s tonnage per hour yield.

Hydraulic door snubbers are said to eliminate impact stresses.

The dipper has been enlarged improving its overall performance without exceeding machine design specifications, according to the company.

The first shovel was in operation at a phosphate mine in South Africa.
