Executives headhunted from BHP Billiton, AngloGold Ashanti, Barrick Gold, and Xstrata are all in the race to become Anglo American’s new CEO.
With Anglo’s current CEO soon to depart the shortlist to find her replacement has been whittled down to seven people, The Australian reports.
Among the contenders are Alex Vanselow, a former chief financial officer at BHP, Mark Cutifani, the CEO of AngloGold Ashanti, Aaron Regent, the former Barrick Gold CEO, and Chris Griffiths, who heads up Anglo’s platinum business Amplats.
Late last week rumours also emerged Xstrata’s soon to be leaving CEO Mick Davis might also be in the running for the role.
It’s still unclear if there are any women on the shortlist to succeed Carroll, whose departure will leave Anglo with only two women in the senior management team.
Carroll quit the job last month after investor backlash over delays and cost blowouts in South America, and her role is considered one of the most demanding in the global mining industry, according to The Australian.
Mining giant BHP Billiton is also on the lookout for a new CEO to replace its current chief Marius Kloppers.
Last week BHP board member Lindsay Maxsted said the company was considering poaching an executive from outside the mining industry.
