Senex enters final stage of approval for Roma North processing facility

Senex Energy has achieved mechanical completion and initiated commissioning of the Roma North natural gas processing facility in the western Surat Basin, Queensland.

The commissioning phase is the final stage before start-up and steady-state operations, and involves thorough safety and quality checks.

The completed facility will include four gas compressors that will provide six petajoules per year of initial gas processing capacity.

It will also comprise of a dehydration unit to remove water from the gas and a 5.6-kilometre pipeline connection to the Comet Ridge-Wallumbilla Pipeline.

According to Senex, the initial capacity of the facility can be expanded to nine petajoules per year at a low cost, with modular design allowing for a further doubling of capacity of up to 18 petajoules per year.

The company reported that construction has been completed to schedule and on budget and are on track to deliver processed sales gas to GLNG by the middle of this year.

Senex signed a 20-year binding gas sales agreement with GLNG in 2015 to supply them with up to 50 terajoules per day.

Senex managing director and chief executive officer Ian Davies said the gas processing facility was an integral piece of infrastructure in ensuring the company’s long-term growth.

“Senex is the first independent Queensland natural gas company in recent years to start commissioning a greenfield processing facility,” he said.

“The Roma North facility can rapidly be expanded at low cost, allowing maximum recovery of gas reserves from Roma North and the wider Western Surat area.”
