Rinehart’s life set for the small screen

Gina Rinehart’s life story is destined for the silver screen after a deal was struck this week to create a six-hour mini series based on the billionaire’s biography.

Screentime, the production company which produced the popular Underbelly series, have secured the rights to Gina Rinehart: The untold story of the world's richest women, the unauthorised biography written by BusinessDay journalist Adele Ferguson.

Ferguson wrote the book based on interviews with Rinehart’s colleagues, family, friends and former employees.

“We are delighted that we won the race to secure the rights to the story of Gina Rinehart and her father, who have fascinated Australia for decades." said Screentime founder and producer Des Monaghan.

“Adele is one of Australia's most highly regarded writers, and her research, understanding and unprecedented access to those closest to the family, will give an insight and greater understanding of one of the most intriguing women in the world,” he said told the SMH

Rinehart released her own book late last year: Northern Australia and Then Some: Changes We Need to Make Our Country Rich, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of her late father Lang Hancock's flight over the rain-soaked cliffs of Western Australia's Pilbara where he discovered the Hamersley iron ore deposits.

Rinehart states the 220-page-book "offers the reader a comprehensive insight into her thoughts about national prosperity" and an "intimate glimpse" of her life and times.
