Rescue training pays off

WESTERN Australian mine rescue teams have put there skills to test in real-life scenarios recently.

Rescue teams from Norilsk Black Swan Nickel and Barrick Lawlers have provided joint assistance at a serious motor vehicle accident on the Kambalda Highway, Western Australia.

Barrick Kanowna’s rescue team also successfully managed an underground fire incident recently.

The Norilsk Black Swan Nickel and Barrick Lawler teams received a standing ovation at a recent mines rescue competition for their work on the Kambalda Highway incident.

The mine rescue teams recently competed in the Western Australian Chamber of Minerals and Energy Underground (CME) Mine Emergency Response Competition.

Oxiana Golden Grove was recognised as the best team out of 13 teams from across WA participating in the competition.

The competition was held at Gold Fields Australia’s St Ives Gold Mine.
