Recycling solution for mine haul truck tyres

A $7 million tyre recycling facility in the Jandakot Airport Industrial Estate will be capable of recycling the huge tyres on haul trucks.

A $7 million tyre recycling facility in the Jandakot Airport Industrial Estate in Western Australia will be capable of recycling the huge tyres on haul trucks used across the mining industry.

The absence of suitable recycling equipment has meant that WA mining companies have to bury thousands of tonnes of worn-out tyres weighing up to 5 tonnes each, usually on mine sites.

The Complete Tyre Solutions facility will accommodate equipment required to process passenger, car, truck, industrial construction, and quarry tyres into 3mm crumb rubber.

The crumb rubber will be produced to specification for use in the WA asphalt and spray seal industry. The plant will deploy specialised equipment including a MT-Rex Tire Shear fully-automated shredder capable of processing up to 63” OTR tires in less than one hour, breaking the tyres down into more manageable pieces.

Part of the $20 million joint Commonwealth and State Government funding under the Recycling Modernisation Fund, the project will benefit WA’s environment, boost the economy, and create jobs.

With an annual processing capability of more than 9000 tonnes, the project will help WA manage the impacts of the ban on the export of waste tyres.

Construction on the Jandakot site is set to begin in weeks.
