RCR has been awarded $108 million in construction contracts from MMG and Rio Tinto.
MMG’s contract, valued at $73 million, will see RCR construct a lead and zinc processing plant MMG’s Dugald River project, with work slated to begin immediately and scheduled for completion in October next year.
The scope of the work includes project management, fabrication and supply of structural steel, mechanical and E&I components, construction, and eventual commission of the concentrator and associated plant.
MMG are responsible for plant design and the supply of key processing equipment.
RCR has also won a contract for the construction and commissioning of Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert power station, valued at $35 million.
The contract includes project management, construction (such as SMP/E&I and minor civil works) and the commissioning of an 80MWe open cycle power plant at Rio Tinto’s Cape Lambert iron ore operations.
Work will begin immediately, with completed slated for late next year.
The Cape Lambert project is a new direction for the contractor, with RCR managing director Paul Dalgliesh calling it “the first win of an improving pipeline of opportunities that we are seeing in the power generation sector”.
“We are currently preferred on a number of other large power projects including gas and solar power stations that are under negotiations.”
It comes after RCR announced a change in strategy, moving away from coal services and reducing its fabrication capacity.
