ENERGY Resources of Australia (ERA) has approved a $57 million extension of the Ranger mine in Northern Territory.
The extension follows a feasibility study which was announced in February 2007.
The extension will continue mining at Ranger until 2012, and will add an additional 4,857 tonnes of contained uranium oxide, according to ERA.
The majority of the additional production will occur in 2011, with processing at Ranger closing in 2020.
The cost of the extension is estimated to be $57 million, comprising expenditure for additional mining equipment and infrastructure.
ERA has also approved expenditure of $10 million for a pre-feasibility study to examine further extensions and processing plant production.
