QUEENSLAND’S peak mining industry association has met with the Australian Labor Party to discuss industrial relations policy.
The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) and senior company executives recently met Federal Deputy Labor Leader and Shadow Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Julia Gillard.
The QRC reaffirmed the importance of continuing flexibility in salary packaging for employees in the mining industry at the meeting.
Led by QRC president and Ensham Resources CEO John Pegler, and BMA Coal CEO John Smith, industry leaders highlighted the mining sector’s focus on performance-based bonuses, and the implications of employment contracts negotiated under federal industrial laws proposed by the Australian Labor Party.
Executives also emphasised flexible working arrangements would be required to attract the most highly skilled young people to the sector in a tight labour market.
