QRC carbon call noted

QUEENSLAND Resources Council (QRC) chief executive Michael Roche has welcomed the ALP’s Federal support for a national carbon management action plan.

He was commenting on the release of the ALP’s New Directions for Australia’s Coal Industry: Three practical steps for clean coal policy.

The Opposition’s commitment of $50 million to a Carbon Capture Mapping and Infrastructure Plan was an essential starting point in the development of zero-emission power stations, according to Roche.

“The deployment of new power generation technology requires a concerted national effort, spearheaded by the identification of commercially viable geological storage sites for carbon dioxide,” he said.

“The announcement by the ALP of a Carbon Capture Mapping and Infrastructure Plan that includes the nationwide mapping and testing of potential sites, pipeline and other infrastructure requirements and the development of a national regulatory framework is a practical response.”
