QLD state member for Mirani, Jim Pearce, claims he will expose ‘corruption’ at Anglo American’s Queensland coal operations.
Pearce will reportedly use his next parliamentary speaking spot, and parliamentary privilege, to unveil his information, the Daily Mercury reports.
“I think that Anglo don’t believe that I have that information – well good luck to them, they’re in for a shock because I have got it and I certainly will be releasing it,” he said.
“I’ve personally had a gutful of the way these mining companies are treating decent men and women of central Queensland.”
It comes in the wake of the miner announcing 90 proposed redundancies at Anglo American’s German Creek coal mine, on the back of continued industrial action.
The cuts will mostly be in production roles, with about 10 maintenance and 20 coal handling and preparation plant roles also to be affected.
Pearce stated his lack of surprise over the latest round of redundancies.
“It seems to me that they’ve been determined to go down this track for some time and unfortunately it means that the community of Middlemount loses out, and we have more people out of work, which we don’t need at this time,” he said.
