The drilling code of practice: Dealing with spills and prevention

The new Mineral Exploration Drilling Code Of Practice published by the Department of Mines and Petroleum focuses on spill control and prevention.

Section 7 of the code identifies spills of diesel, petrol and acids as major risks with serious consequences including slip hazards, and thermal and chemical burns.

Risk controls identified by the COP include sufficient spill response equipment to deal with a complete failure of the largest container of hazardous substances or dangerous goods.

Spill station is one company working towards making more drillers and exploration companies compliant with the new rules.
