RAM delivers container handlers

RAM has delivered three RAM Revolver container handlers to IMX.
The units allow containers filled with iron ore to be lifted and tipped into the hold of a vessel.
The containers are handled within the port, by rail and at the mine with standard container handling equipment such as straddles and reach stackers.
The project has allowed IMX to export its product quickly with low capital investment whilst meeting all the strict environmental requirements and has allowed DP World to develop new business.
Because of the resources boom many small to medium sized miners can’t get their products to market for several reasons such as insufficient capacity of existing bulk loading facilities; material may have potential as a pollutant restricting its loading & stock piling; small amounts of material may disrupt loading facilities; or the cost to set up sheds and other dedicated facilities.
Using a RAM REVOLVER in a containerised bulk environment solves all these issues by allowing miners to get their product to customers.
So whether the RAM REVOLVER is fitted to a ships crane, quay crane, mobile harbour crane or even a reach stacker it has the potential to meet customers requirements in many different projects.
Using proven technology from existing rotating spreaders in the RAM product range, it is a hydraulically operated taking power from the quay crane in the same way as a standard electro-hydraulic spreader.
The units are built with Swedish steel and many European components in the motors and drive system as well as the latest Siemens electrical control systems to ensure safety.
The RAM design conforms to all major design standards for spreaders and twistlocks and used a patented gripper to support the container in the rotation so that shear forces are not exerted on twist lock or corner castings of box which are designed for longitudinal loads whilst moving up to 1700 tonnes her hour.
One of the important features of this product is the environmental compliance and RAM provides a lid lifter to reduce dust and has some other ideas under development.
