Proximity detection system

Mine Site Technologies (MST) will demonstrate its newest technology releases, including a twin zone proximity detection system, at Stand1008 at the 2009 NSW Mining & Energy (M&E) exhibition at the Muswellbrook Showground.

The company says the ImPact Proximity Detection System alerts vehicle operators to other vehicles and people in their vicinity, reducing the risk of collisions and improving the safety of all personnel.

The proximity detection system provides an additional level of control for risks associated with vehicle-personnel and vehicle-vehicle interactions, MST said.

According to the company, this is achieved by providing two zones of detection to allow an initial, low level alert to be given, as a person or other vehicle enters the Outer Zone 80 m to 120 m from the moving vehicle. When the person or vehicle approached within 5 m to 15 m of the moving vehicle, entering the so called Inner Zone, higher level alerts and alarms are triggered.

A second new technology, an I.S. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephone handset known as the MinePhone will be formally introduced at M&E.

MST said the MinePhone is designed for use with the company’s ImPact high bandwidth, fibre optic underground network infrastructure and allows two-way voice, texting and data exchange via the ImPact digital network.
