Sony pushes for high definition

Sony Australia has called for the local mining industry to improve its efforts in addressing the protection of property and personnel through its video monitoring solutions.

The company is pushing a movement towards the use of high definition (HD) video monitoring, which it says delivers a range of significant benefits compared with traditional systems.

According to Sony, HD monitoring solutions provide high quality image reproduction, ideal for mining environments which often involve areas that are dimly lit or dusty.

With an HD system in place, regardless of intermittent light or conditions, activity and any incidents can be monitored and recorded for a company’s safety and records, Sony said.

Sony says that the level of detail delivered by HD technology makes zooming in on minute details such as a machine fault or structural issue is now possible.

According to Sony, the ability to access such detail minimises both the risk of physical harm, but also financial losses due to prolonged work stoppages.

Flexicon drum tipper

Flexicon has released a drum tipper designed to seal drums against a discharge cone, mate the cone against a gasketted connection and discharge bulk material dust-free through a slide gate valve.

Trademarked TIP-TITE, the tipper accommodates drums from 114 to 208 litres.

According to Flexicon, the drum platform is raised by a single hydraulic cylinder, creating a dust-tight seal between the rim of a drum and the underside of the discharge cone. A second hydraulic cylinder tips the platform-hood assembly and drum, stopping at tip angles of 45, 60 or 90 degrees with a motion-dampening feature.

The vertically oriented cone mates with a gasketted inlet port fitted to the lid of an optional hopper with integral flexible screw conveyor or pneumatic pick-up adapter, or to existing process equipment, the company said.

A pneumatically actuated slide gate valve is designed to prevent material flow until the discharge cone has been properly seated in the gasketted receiving ring.
