Isuzu opens expanded parts warehouse facility

Isuzu Australia has re-opened its parts warehouse facility in Melbourne, which has been expanded to 12,000 m² of fully racked storage to support truck, marine and industrial engine parts requirements.

The new facility is twice the size of the older facility and also provides the opportunity for future expansion when required.

According to the company, the upgrade comes as a result of record Isuzu truck sales over the past several years.

The warehouse will store common items like brakes, clutches, suspensions, as well as other more specialised spare parts for every model Isuzu truck sold in Australia.

The installation will store items ranging from the smallest washer to a fully-dressed cab assembly.

Honeywell and Heat Transfer Research technology design collaboration

Honeywell and Heat Transfer Research (HTRI), a global heat transfer and exchanger technology developer, have combined to help manufacturers design heat exchanger equipment in their plants more easily.

The companies have integrated Honeywell’s UniSim design with HTRI’s Xchanger Suite software.

According to the partners, this gives plants the ability to improve the level of detail reflected in their heat exchanger designs and projected performance in simulated plant models.

This will help engineers optimise overall process design and operation strategies by assessing prediction models, which indicate how the heat exchangers will function and affect the overall plant.

UniSim Design is Honeywell’s simulation software used by plant and process engineers to create and improve manufacturing processes implemented within industrial facilities.

Once created, the heat exchanger design and simulation models can be used to evaluate process modifications and help improve overall plant safety, reliability and efficiency.

HTRI Xchanger Suite is an advanced engineering tool that includes nine software components for designing, rating and simulating heat exchangers.

Turck submersible pressure transmitters

Turck has introduced PT4500 and PT4510 submersible pressure transmitters which, according to the company, are optimised for detecting the level of water or other media with similar density in challenging industrial environments.

Turck’s PT4510 submersible pressure transmitter was designed for low-level applications of up to 400 inches, while the PT4500 is available in ranges up to 100 psig

To deliver accurate level detection, a transmitter is placed at the bottom of the tank holding the liquid, and the transmitter then converts the pressure reading to an analogue 4-20 mA output signal.

The electrical connection to the transmitter is routed through the top of the tank and contains power and signal wires.

The transmitters carry UL/cUL 913 approval for use in Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D locations when installed with an approved barrier, Turck said.

Swan Rollover Protection

Delta-V Experts have developed the Swan Rollover Protective Structure which is designed to protect vehicle occupants by preventing the cabin of the vehicle from being crushed in a rollover.

Used primarily in the mining industry where there is the risk of rollovers from poor ground stability and steep grades, the structure fits above the cabin of a vehicle. It is suitable for retrofitting to light utility vehicle fleets.

The Delta-V structure minimises the rollover collision effect on the vehicle cabin, thus reducing the possibility of injuries. It also helps to minimise damage to the vehicle’s windows, further reducing the possibility of people falling out of the vehicle.

Currently, more than 1500 vehicles have been fitted with the rollover protective structure in South Africa, United States and South America. This system also has the potential to be used in other industries such as forestry, military, emergency services and farming.

TURCK releases T8.LI20 and T8.LI50 robust magnetic linear encoders

TURCK has released the Kübler T8.LI20 and T8.LI50 robust magnetic linear encoders, which use A and B output voltages as well as a periodic index with the corresponding inverted channels.

According to the company, the encoders achieve high accuracy in a broad range of linear motion applications.

The T8.LI20 and T8.LI50 linear encoders are available with either a push-pull output or an RS-422 interface and provide a voltage range from 4.8 to 30 V DC.

The linear encoders are used with magnetic bands that are attached to the mounting surface and protected by a stainless-steel cover.

TURCK says the encoder’s resolution is up to 5 µm with quadruple evaluation and its repeat accuracy is one increment.

The encoder uses non-contact technology and can survive environments with high vibrations and shocks.

The product also has an IP-67 protection rating, a wide temperature range and a weatherproof die-cast housing, meaning it can be used outdoors.

Bin Controls’ SmartBob2 level sensor

Bin Controls has announced the release of the BinMaster SmartBob2 level sensor, which is designed to offer digital signal processing.

When the SmartBob2 Level Sensor takes a measurement, a heavy-duty motor releases a strong, stainless steel aircraft cable from the supply pulley and a weighted sensor probe quickly descends to the surface of the material.

The sensor uses a system of pulse counting with a high-resolution micro controlled optical sensing system to take measurements both as the bob descends and as it automatically retracts.

When the sensor probe touches the material surface, pulses are momentarily stopped and measurement information is transmitted.

According to Bin Controls, the SmartBob2 Level Sensor combines technological advances and common sense to give users one of the strongest and smartest inventory measurement systems on the market.

The unit is powered by either Honda petrol or Yanmar diesel engines.

Garlock offers sealing solution

Garlock has announced its sealing solution has been used at Rio Tinto Alcan’s Yarwun alumina refinery in Queensland.

After a slurry leak, which had the potential for environmental and safety damage, Rio Tinto Alcan approached Garlock for a suitable sealing solution.

Garlock used its 9000 series Expandable Valve Service Packing (EVSP) with modifications to address specific VOC, VHAP, heat, pressure and chemical issues.

According to the company, due to the need for zero gland leakage, Garlock recommended the use of their standard EVSP modified to incorporate the use of its 1303 FEP die-formed rings at each end of the EVSP.

EVSP is designed to permit selective component compression and controlled radial flow for effective sealing on I.D. and O.D., Garlock said.

Rio Tinto said EVSP has stopped the leaks and delivered zero downtime enabling the plant to run at full capacity until scheduled valve replacement or refurbishment.
