Phoenix Contact Quint DC UPS for mining applications

The Quint DC UPS uninterruptible power supply can be integrated into established networks and continues to supply your systems without interruption even in the event of a mains failure.

It can be integrated into your network easily and flexibly, thanks to the integrated interface for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT or USB. The device is available with all network technologies in each of the four performance classes 5 A, 10 A, 20 A und 40 A.

The intelligent battery management system with IQ Technology ensures optimum utilisation of the energy storage system.

The technology prevents failures through preventive evaluation of operating and battery states, such as the remaining life expectancy of the energy storage system (state of health) and the current state of charge of the energy storage system.

This makes it possible to plan the battery replacement based on the expected service life in months. The type of battery connected is recognised automatically thanks to the automatic battery recognition function. The adjusted charging characteristic maximises the service life of your energy storage system.

The powerful battery charger with up to 5 A ensures the fastest possible times for recharging the energy storage system. It enables long buffer times thanks to large battery capacities, thus ensuring the permanent availability of your system.

The integrated interfaces make energy and function monitoring, parameterisation of the devices, and the shutting down of your system to a safe state possible at any time regardless of location.

The efficiency of the system can be increased by monitoring the output current and voltage, and the manual connection and disconnection of the system. The cold-start battery start function starts the power supply even without input voltage. A function test and startup are thus possible even without a supply network.

With SFB Technology, which provides up to six times the nominal current for up to 15 ms, standard miniature circuit breakers are tripped selectively and loads connected in parallel continue working. At widths of between 35–47 mm and heights of 130 mm, the uninterruptible power supplies are particularly space saving in the control cabinet.

Boart Longyear DriftMaster rods and bits

Boart Longyear’s DriftMaster rods and bits are designed with a unique thread profile for added endurance and strength in the most demanding tunnelling, bolting, and drifting applications.

It offers increased strength through stress reduction in two key ways.

Firstly, the tapered profile provides an increased material cross-section at the base of the threads and secondly, the asymmetric thread geometry minimises stress concentrations. The lower stress combined with deep case hardening allows for a significant increase in cyclic load handling capability. More load cycles means more drilling time and more productivity.

Optimising the load distribution and contact area, the DriftMaster thread geometry is designed to maximise resistance to wear under the harshest drilling conditions. Combined with the wear resistance associated with carburising heat treatment, the DriftMaster endures the toughest drilling conditions.

To further improve productivity, the tapered thread profile offers superior rod-bit make-up and breakout characteristics for more drilling time.

DriftMaster is being introduced in 35 millimetre hex cross-sections for use with standard, Retrac, and Straightrac button bits from 43–64 millimetres. The initial offering includes dome and pilot reamers — including optional RazorBack, a patented high-productivity back-reaming bit.

Hella RokLUME and HypaLUME

Hella Mining’s lighting range applies some of the same philosophies and standards found in the company’s internationally recognised automotive product innovations. Its primary range for mining includes the RokLUME and HypaLUME series.

The lights’ casings are treated with a special patented coating called NanoSAFE, which is designed to counter the effects of harsh mining environments.

It implements three additional layers of coating to make casing surfaces more corrosion resistant, non-stick and easy to clean.

Stefan Kisser, product manager and applications engineer at Hella Australia, says “Hella uses NanoSafe technology to improve product performance – the three additional layers lead to a much higher and longer resistance against corrosion. This NanoSafe technology is exclusive to our mining LED work lamps, where the conditions are extremely harsh.”

The compact RokLUME 155TP, RokLUME 190TP, mid-size 280 N and larger 380 N are designed to bring on-road safety to vehicles during night operations and can be mounted to heavy vehicles using a heavy duty bracket.

RokLUME lights include up to five light distribution specifications to suit various needs, including close- and long-range illumination, pencil beam, flood lighting and amber lighting.

Larger models such as the RokLUME 380N and 280N are compatible with Hella’s ZeroGlare lighting technology, which minimises glare when vehicles are passing each other.

The RokLUME 280N is capable of a light output of 4400 lumens (lm) while the RokLUME 380N can go up to 7800 lumens.

The HypaLUME range is designed for high-output lighting in scenarios where the widest possible range of light is required, such as flood lighting on tall structures or very large machines.

The lights are capable of extremely powerful light output; the HypaLUME 110/230V AC LED heavy duty flood light for example is capable of an output of 28,000 lumens.

The HypaLUME 24/48V DC LED flood light, meanwhile, can go up to 25,000 lumens.

Flexco unveils urethane skirting update

Flexco has added a new size to its urethane skirting range after the release of its 7.6m rolls of skirting early last year.

The new 15.2m skirting gives customers the option of limiting the number of gaps in skirting along a conveyor belt system.

Effectively, this restricts the amount of dust that enters the atmosphere and causes safety and environmental hazards on-site.

The skirting system also acts as an effective seal at load points without damaging the top cover of conveyor belts.

It can be applied to single direction and reversing belts, old and new belts, vulcanised and mechanically spliced systems and in wet and dry conditions.

The urethane skirting is suitable for temperatures ranging from 30ºC to 82ºC.

Flexco urethane skirting uses a more wear-resistant material than typical rubber, and its superior tear resistance provides three or four times the wear life in similar applications. Its lower coefficient of friction reduces strain on the skirting system.

Martin Engineering SQC2S RM Cleaner

A global leader in conveyor belt cleaning technologies has introduced a new design specifically for applications where space for installation is limited.

The new SQC2S RM (Reduced Mini) Cleaner from Martin Engineering is a compact secondary belt cleaner that allows installation in close quarters, built with a narrow profile that resists material build-up.

Patented rubber buffers maintain cleaning pressure on the new design, engineered to deflect and allow splices to pass without damage to the belt or cleaner, even on reversing belts.

The rugged construction incorporates individually cushioned stainless steel blades with tungsten carbide tips for effective cleaning with negligible risk to belt, splice or blade, and it can withstand even punishing operating conditions, including corrosive environments, high-speed belts and high-tonnage loads.

“The blades conform to the belt profile, adjusting individually to deliver continuous contact across the belt,” explained Dave Mueller, conveyor products manager at Martin Engineering.

“In a perfect world, bulk materials would load uniformly, wearing the blade evenly, but that rarely happens. By having multiple segments attached to a single rigid assembly, the tension can be maintained and adjusted accurately, quickly and safely.”

Like the other designs in the SQC2 product line, blade removal and replacement is a simple operation by removing the lock pin from the main support assembly and sliding out the cartridge.

The SQC2 RM (Reduced Mini) cleaner from Martin Engineering.

The lock pins are a key component to Martin Engineering’s “no-reach design”, which allows workers to conduct their lockout/tag-out procedure more safely. The unit is one of Martin Engineering’s ‘Safety First’ family of products, helping customers achieve OSHA compliance.

Suitable for belt widths from 450–1829mm (18–72 inches) and operating speeds up to 750 feet per minute (3.81m/sec), the SQC2S RM blade sections conform to the belt profile by adjusting individually to deliver continuous contact across the entire belt.

The unit can be used in applications involving operating temperatures between -34°C and 149°C (-30°F and 300°F). The design features all steel powder coated construction (except for the rubber buffer), with a dust-tight door to cover the opening for the mainframe has also been designed to fit the reduced component size, for a clean, efficient installation.

The SQC2S RM requires just 134 mm (5.27 inches) of space from the tip of the blade to the bottom of the mainframe. Similar to the original design, when the blade wears out, the removable cartridge allows easy replacement, so the end user can have a spare cartridge on the shelf.

When the time comes to switch them out, the conveyor is only out of service for a matter of minutes. The used cartridge may then be taken back to the shop, where the blades can be replaced and the cartridge put back on the shelf for the next changeout.

The tensioners allow simple adjustment of blade-to-belt pressure to maintain cleaning efficiency, regardless of blade wear.

The SQC2S RM is expected to find utility in applications where installation space is at a premium, including biomass, recycling, waste-to-energy, trash sorting, foundries and steel production.

Ezy-Deploy: safety mining reels manufactured in Australia

Local industrial reel users are turning to Reel Tech, an Australian company with more than 30 years’ experience in fluid handling.

The company’s PitBull mining reel range, known for its unique safety design, construction and versatility has been expanded and can now be optioned with new, easily attachable accessories designed to make them even safer and more productive.

Used by Australasia’s largest mining, oil and gas companies, Reel Tech’s range covers all applications and environments.

What makes PitBull Reels safer?

When designing new reel technology, Reel Tech’s core focus is on ease of use and operator safety. PitBull Reels can be integrated with a gearbox called Ezi-Deploy, which is an easy to bolt on accessory for all PitBull direct drive reels.

Ezy-Deploy is an auto declutching system, with no levers, buttons or electronics required; the operator can simply pull and go with the lowest pull resistance. Ezy-Deploy clutch system offers smooth reel operation to minimise operator strain injuries and reduce excessive force that can prematurely damage equipment. Difficult pull force on payout adds to the risk of strain injuries for operators. This auto declutching system dramatically reduces hose payout force, minimizing strain injuries and eliminates chain and sprocket pinch points. Originally designed for Reel Tech’s Firedog range of truck mounted fire fighting reels, the Ezy-Deploy is now available as standard across the mining reel range.

Safest reel for the toughest environment

Reel Tech has released a complete range of PitBull hose reels with a gearbox designed for ‘safer’ rewind speeds and with rewind options including manual, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric. A new product called Safe-R-Reel is also available. It helps minimise the chance of employee and equipment damage due to excessive hose ‘speed whip’ during rewind.

Excessive rewind speeds in motorised reels, whether spring or electric rewind, can cause hose to rapidly move. Rapid movement of hose and fittings can strike employees and equipment. Rewind speed can be significantly reduced by 30-50 per cent by using Reel Tech’s Safe-R-Reel brake cartridge system. This speed control system is easy and inexpensive to fit into many or existing spring rewind reels and protects the operator and equipment. This patented maintenance free non-belt and non-chain direct drive system ensures a controlled speed during rewind to reduce hose handling injuries.

For spring reels, users can add Safe-R-Reel in full stainless steel that is chemically resistant, robust, durable, and offers a high level of safety.

Manufactured in Australia, all PitBull reels are designed with hot dip galvanised frame and disc components, and with stainless steel full flow hub, fasteners and hose guide as standard. Hose reels no longer need to suffer from corrosion as all PitBull Reel range are hot dip galvanised, and as standard with stainless steel fluid paths, this means no painting and the ability of the reel to flow corrosive fluid without the need to change the reel internals makes it versatile, safer and most cost effective on site.

Adaptability

Most people don’t know that PitBull reels are designed with the patented quick change hub technology, which allows users to quickly change hose sizes and diameters. Reel Tech has also recently released a range of easy to bolt on accessories for PitBull reels. These easy add-on options such a quick change hub make PitBull reels the most flexible reel and easiest direct drive reel to change out on site, saving time on the job.

Custom Solutions

The PitBull range suits most hose sizes from ½” to 2” I.D. hose, available in ultra-narrow to large sized hose reels. Reel Tech has delivered numerous custom solutions from narrow reels for smaller spaces to fully automatic oversized reels. Users can also improve operator safety and handling with accessories like FlatWinder, an automatic hose layering accessory, allowing single operator control. The FlatWinder automatically layers the hose on the reel, so there is no reason for the operator to have to walk back to the reel at all during the operation — the system layers the hose onto the reel neatly every time.

In addition to the FlatWinder, by adding Reel Tech’s Reel-in-Control long-range wireless remote control system, with adaptive frequency hopping — perfect for one-person hose handling applications — reducing multiple hose handling requirements. The operator has no need to touch the reel during rewind operations at all. PitBull reels can also be ordered in manual rewind hose applications that do not require powered operation or control.

STAUFF CAD database

Hydraulic components manufacturing company, STAUFF, has created an online database of computer-aided design (CAD) models for their 40,000-plus products. The company’s national marketing manager, Con Prandalos, talks about how the database helps design engineers.

STAUFF has been developing, producing and marketing hydraulic fluid components and accessories for over 50 years, with the manufacturing and design headquartered in Germany and products distributed in more than 40 countries through a global network.

Having been present in Australia for over four decades, STAUFF has branches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong. The company’s sales and distribution offices are also supported through a national network of authorised distributors and stockists.

“STAUFF’s products provide port-to-port solutions, from the component level, filter systems and filter elements for fluid media, pressure test systems, hydraulic accessories, flanges, tube connectors and quick release couplings, clamping systems for pipes, hoses and cables, machined parts through to value-adding services,” said Con Prandalos, STAUFF national marketing manager.

“While manufacturing and design are carried out in Germany, we also offer value-added services in Australia. So if you buy components such as tubes and clamps from us, we offer value-added services such as assembling the parts, bending tubes, forming and custom system-build solutions.”

“STAUFF facilities and products are covered by Quality and Performance approvals from Lloyd’s Register QA, SAI Global, Bureau Veritas, DNV GL.”

Taking the database online

STAUFF recently expanded its CAD online database with additional industrial fastening components for pipes, tubes, hoses, cables and other flexible and rigid components.

With these new CAD online database additions, users now have unlimited direct access to 3D models and 2D drawings of hundreds of additional products and configurations made from plastic, steel and stainless steel.

“The CAD database has enabled systems designers and engineers to access STAUFF products in 2D and 3D and other file formats to integrate into their drawings and specifications for system designs and applications,” Prandalos said.

“For designers, this eliminates the complicated measuring and drawing of components, as well as the need to import third-party formats that are not fully compatible to the users design file requirements.

“This saves valuable time and costs during the design process, for example when system elements are integrated with other components. Each CAD model is permanently linked with the corresponding manufacturer’s reference and order code, which can be transferred into the parts list and easily communicated to the purchasing department.”

The files provided are native CAD formats, which are compatible with all common design and engineering software (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro/E, Inventor, AutoCAD), as well as most neutral data formats (e.g. DWG, DXF, IGES, STEP).

Using the online database, design engineers have access to CAD models of tube connectors, test couplings, filter housings, pressure gauges and other tank and container accessories, which are prerequisites for the design of hydraulic lines and systems.

The STAUFF CAD online database is publicly available to access by going to www.stauff.com/cad.

In addition to the CAD database, STAUFF also has its detailed product catalogue available as a free app for mobile devices available through the usual channels: Google Play Store for Android and Apple Store for iOS devices.

On over 1,700 pages, the 10 individual catalogues offer all details for around 40,000 standard components. This information is relevant and useful for machine and systems design engineers as well as technical purchasers of hydraulic line components and accessories when comparing and selecting product characteristics and properties, dimensions, material information, order designations and much more.

The STAUFF catalogue app is publicly available to access up-to-date product information by going to www.stauff.com
