Mining tyre technology from Titan

Titan Wheel Corporation has released Accelerated Change Technology (ACT) wheels.

The new design allows technicians to change or rotate the rear tyres on a mine haul truck quickly and safely.

Built for use on the outside rear wheel position on mining haul trucks, once installed the ACT wheels eliminate the need to remove nuts or clamps to rotate the tyres off and on the haul truck.

Instead a technician can slide the tyre in parts across the outside wheel, allowing them to rotate or change the inside tyre without having to take the outside rim off of the unit.

Featuring two piece lock rings that release the tyre assembly from the wheel, the ACT allows for easy removal of the inside dual tyre which slips over the outer dual wheel.

It employs a double lock system that stops rotation of the side flange and prevents explusion of the flange and controls tyre slippage.

The back and bead has a 360 degree pry bar pocket which assist in demounting the tyre from the wheel.

Further rim components inside the bead band prevent tyre inflation if the lock ring is incorrectly assembled.

The ACT wheel reduces the use of heavy impact wrenches that were required in the past to torque and retorque 50 to 60 wheel nuts when removing a wheel and tyre assembly.

ACT wheels are compatible with every size and brand of mining tyres on the market, and are available for every haul truck make and model.

Caterpillar releases high lift wheel loader options

Caterpillar has released the extended high lift option for the Cat 994F wheel loader.

The addition of the extended high lift (EHL) provides an extra 1075millimetres of dump clearance compared to the high lift linkage.

This extra lift makes it easier for the operator to load a 250 ton size class truck and enables them to dump the last pass without pushing material.

For faster cycle times, an operator can back the wheel loader away from the truck without racking back the bucket.

Centering the load, for reduced truck wear, better truck handling and less spillage has also been improved.

The EHL linkage is designed to reduce operator fatigue, decrease loading time and improve daily production when loading 793 size trucks.

In a 793 loading test with the new linkage, cycle time decreased 5.5 percent, which resulted in a 5 percent increase in production.

The 994F equipped with EHL linkage is rated at 32 metric tons and is a 7-pass match with the 793.

The EHL Option consists of new lift arms, lift and tilt cylinders, tilt links and counterweight material, which is added to the interior of the rear bumper.

Powered by a Cat 3516B HD EUI engine, the wheel loader has a gross power of 1176kW and net power of 1092kW.

The updated 994F retains the Steering and Transmission Integrated Control (STIC) system that enables the operator to use small movements of a single hand to steer and to make direction and gear changes.

The Cat wheel loader also includes the Rimpull Control System which enables the operator to set rimpull below 100 percent for optimum traction in poor underfoot conditions.

The operator can reduce rimpull and ground speed by using the impeller clutch pedal, which is fully modulating for smooth control when digging and loading.

Helix Technologies have released a new version of the Helix delta-T conveyor design program.

The first major release since 2003, the program known as version 6 has full dynamic analysis capabilities and is appropriate for designing high powered conveyors and long overland conveyors.

The delta-T conveyor program operates by calculating transient belt tensions and velocities during the starting and stopping of a conveyor, and can model belt behaviour when starting fully loaded or empty, and when stopping either fully loaded or empty.

The program allows for the input of a number of drives or brakes and of torque speed/speed curves, delay times, braking torques, inertia effects and flywheels.

After which the operator can view and create two dimensional and surface plot 3D graphs for belt tensions, velocities, strain rates and take up movements versus time along the conveyor.

Heavy duty cylinder handlers by Manitou

Manitou has launched a range of cylinder handlers for safer materials handling.

The MHT has been developed to safely and efficiently handle hydraulic cylinders on shovels.

The handler works by positively grabbing the cylinder before pins are removed thus removing the effect of a suspended and swinging load

Safety if further enhanced through the integrated load management system on the Manitou MHT Range.

The pre-programmed loads charts for the Manitou MHT ensure that each and every lift is completed in absolute safety.

The handler comes with eight different possible movements, allowing service crews to easily line up the cylinder barrel

According to the company, “if you want to move the cylinder an inch you can, if you want to move it 6 you can all in complete safety.”

Other significant features of the Manitou MHT include the machine’s ability to service the hydraulic shovel, drag line, dump truck in situ.

Anti stick conveyor belts from ContiClean

ContiTech has released the more troughable anti stick ContiClean A-H conveyor belt.

Dual function switches from Pilz

Pilz has launched the PITmode dual function switch.

The PITmode switch allows for the selection of operating mode and authorisation control for machine access.

The operating mode selector switch has been constructed for use in plant and machinery with a range of control sequences and modes, allowing for switching between defined operating modes.

Individual (access) authorisations can be assigned for each operator via an RFID-based key.

They are assigned via identification management in the machine control system.

The evaluation device safely identifies and evaluates the selected operating mode, which plays a crucial role in avoiding accidents.

The operating mode is selected by inserting a transponder key and pressing the pushbutton defined for the relevant operating mode.

Each key is individually coded, which prevents manipulations.

The administrative work is reduced because the functions of several mechanical keys can be combined within one transponder key.
