Sandvik launches two new cone crushers

Sandvik has debuted two 750 kW cone crushers for secondary and tertiary crushing.

Named the CH890 (for secondary) and the CH895 (for tertiary/pebbles), they are designed to replace the CH880 and provide increased production.

The CH890 has a throughput range of between 248 and 2100 tonnes/hour, while the CH895 has a throughput of 200-1000 tonnes/hour, depending on application and material being processed.

These two new crushers include specialised geometries for more efficient crushing, higher engine power, greater structural strength, and proven technologies based on their predecessor models.

Both have specially designed, strength-optimised topshells, and dedicated crushing chambers on the CH895 model make it ideal for tertiary crushing as well as pebble crushing in ore-crushing applications.

On the CH890, the redesigned topshell and crushing chambers are optimised for secondary crushing.

While key features include the heavy-duty structure and 750 kW engine power, according to Sandvik it is the specialised geometries and smart crushing features of these units that uniquely drive efficiency and throughput.

The new mainshaft, made from a new high-strength material, is designed to withstand harsh mining requirements while the strength-optimised bottomshell design allows for greater loads – with the heavy-duty structural design ensuring durability and longevity.

Additional features include a relocated external dump valve and a new over-pressure system to keep the lubrication oil clean, thereby increasing time between services.

The units incorporate a hydraulically adjusted mainshaft and an ASRi (Automatic Setting Registration) control system to facilitate online adjustment during full load and ensure peak performance at all times.

Sandvik launches underground tyre monitor

Sandvik has unveiled the Sandvik Tyre Monitor (STM), which monitors tyre pressure and temperature, for underground load-haul-dumps (LHDs) and trucks.

Available for all new Sandvik underground LHDs and trucks equipped with Sandvik’s Vehicle Control and Management (VCM) system, it provides the following warnings when it detects tyre leaks; extreme over-pressure (of 38% and above); underpressure ( at 12.5 % and below); extreme under-pressure ( at 25% and below); when the tyres overheat temperature (85°C); and alerts the operator when the battery is low.

Sensors are easily replaceable.

The STM uses four pressure sensors integrated into the tyre vent caps, which send a signal to a wireless radio receiver integrated with the Sandvik VCM system.

Once the STM has been installed and set up, the tyres are inflated to their correct pressure and the pressure sensor vent caps are screwed on.

The operator can then see the tyre pressures on the cabin display and will be warned of any air leakage, as well as pressure or temperature problems.

Under-inflated tyres are potential safety hazards for the operation of the machine.

Steering and overall vehicle behaviour can change due to under-inflated or damaged tyres, compromising controllability of the machine.

In addition, unplanned wheel changes following a tyre failure in high-traffic production or ramp areas can create hazards to personnel carrying out the wheel change.

The tyre monitoring has also been designed for use on automated vehicle operation where human senses are not available to feel the differing behaviour of the machine caused by tyre failure.

Swift Cable-Mates are relocatable and combined with powerful magnets, can hold up to 25kg, in the vertical plane.

They feature permanent and temporary installations, each magnetic Canble-Mate can hold up to 25 kilograms and the adjustable HDPE strap is designed to support various quantities and sizes of hoses, cables and pneumatic lines.

Plant-wide weigh batching system

Flexicon has unveiled an automated Plant-wide Weigh Batching System engineered that can simultaneously weigh up to seven major ingredients received in bulk bags and unlimited minor ingredients received in 23 kg sacks, pails or boxes.

The system then conveys weighed batches to a downstream blender that feeds a bulk bag filler and a paper sack filling machine.

Systems components include:
• Five loss-of weight Bulk-out bulk bag dischargers with large surge hoppers and rotary airlock valves;
• Two loss-of-weight Bulk-Out bulk bag dischargers with small surge hoppers and flexible screw conveyors;
• Two loss-of-weight bag dump stations with flexible screw conveyors;
• A check-weighting hopper:
• A twin-Centrepost bulk bag filler;
• A Pneumati-con dilute-phase pneumatic conveying system including blower, filter receiver and conveying lines; and
• A programmable controls package

The large surge hoppers accommodate the entire contents of a bulk bag containing a major ingredient, providing operators time to load full bags into the frame as material is removed at high rates through a common pneumatic line terminating at the filter receiver.

The smaller surge hoppers on the loss-of-weight Bulk-Out bulk bag dischargers provide sufficient capacity to allow reloading of major ingredients conveyed at lower rates by small diameter flexible screw conveyors, providing higher accuracy than possible with large rotary airlocks.

Also conveyed by loss-of-weight flexible screw conveyors are minor ingredients, which are tipped manually at either of two tipping stations equipped with vacuum filtration systems to contain airborne dust.

All flexible screw conveyors discharge into a common check-weighing transition hopper mounted on load cells that confirms batch accuracy before feeding the material through a rotary airlock into the aforementioned pneumatic line.

The filter receiver discharges weighed material into a mezzanine-level, high capacity blender mounted on load cells, providing confirmation of final batch weight.

Blended batches are gravity discharged into the paper sack filling machine or the bulk bag filler, both at floor level.

The KSB / GIW HVF can be retrofit into many existing froth applications. The pump’s de-aeration system includes a KSB / GIW patent-pending vented impeller and airlock venting. This helps to eliminate sump overflow due to pump airlock; reduce downtime; and allow water use to be restricted to the bare minimum. Fewer pumps are required for less capital expense, requiring less water and power usage.

HVF pump has been fully tested on froth and viscous liquids. The pump exceeded expectations at a large phosphate company in Finland. The company’s existing pumps were not able to provide the required flow and were air locking at only 1/3 process design capacity. After installing the HVF pump, the company achieved a flow of 415 m3/hr. The result ? A very satisfied customer.

Designed for air-entrained slurries, the pump can be used in phosphate mining, hard rock mining and oil sands. The pump offers improved efficiency and is environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

Komatsu launch hybrid excavators

Komatsu is set to launch its world first hybrid excavator in Australia in May.

Called the HB205 and weighing in at 20 tonnes, Komatsu say it provides fuel savings of up to 41% as well as a 10kg per hour reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

The excavator utilises a diesel electric drive system, using an electric motor to drive the machine’s swing function and to recover energy during the swing-braking phase of its operating cycle.

The kinetic energy generated during the swing-braking phase is converted to electricity, which is sent through an inverter and then captured by the Komatsu-developed Ultra Capacitor.

This captured energy is then discharged very quickly, to power the next rotation of the machine’s superstructure.

Komatsu’s Ultra Capacitors are used – rather than the nickel-metal hydride batteries employed in most hybrid cars – to provide fast energy storage and instantaneous power transmission.

In tests comparing the standard PC200LC-8 hydraulic excavator to the Hybrid HB205, the hybrid model reduced fuel consumption by approximately 25-40%, depending on the application.

Recovering this electric power has allowed Komatsu to build the machine with a four cylinder diesel engine in place of the six cylinder diesel.

ACE introduces transformers

Automated Control Engineering (A.C.E.) has introduced the PST 100 transformer range.

This latest range of 12V and 24V transformers are suitable for harsh environments between -40 degrees up to 70 degrees, and come with an epoxy resin casing.

The FEAS PST100 range have been safety accredited to VDE, EN, UL, CSA, ensuring optimal protection and performance.

The output is separated according to VDE 0551 with extra low safety potential PELV (EN 60204), SELV (EN 60950).

The PST100 transformers have been designed to be overload and open circuit protected, as well as short circuit proof.

The range has also been designed with high functionality, including possible parallel connections.

Boart unveils coring bits

Boart Longyear has debuted its Ultramatrix (UMX) diamond coring bits.
The bits are designed to drill faster and wear slower.
UMX features advanced metallurgical formulas and Boart’s razorcut face design, and impregnates large synthetic diamonds to create a crown matrix that is engineered for longer bit life and increased penetration.
Ready to cut out of the box, the bits also feature the stage waterway design, which allows crown heights up to 25mm.
Twin-taper windows improve surface flushing, forcing debris through the windows while keeping the bit face clear and reinforcing the inner diameter.

Superior expands wing pulleys range

Superior Industries has expanded its line of Chevron Wing Pulleys.

It is now building a style rated for CEMA applications, which make infrequent starts and stops.

The pulleys have a V-shape construction and designed to deflect material and prevent it from lodging better than standard wing pulleys.

This results in less trapped fugitive materials and less belt damage.

Other benefits include much softer decibel levels generated by the Chevron wing pulley.

According to Superior, a standard wing pulley produces about 120 decibels of sound, while the Chevron wing pulley sustains a level of 70 decibels.

The company says that is like comparing a jet engine to a vacuum cleaner.

With the addition, Superior’s Chevron wing pulleys are now available in CEMA rated construction with diameters from 10” to 20” and face widths from 20” to 63”, plus Mine Duty and Super Duty styles with diameters from 12” to 48” and face widths from 12” to 78”.

Boart Longyear releases safety tooling

Boart Longyear has developed two new tools to prevent hand injuries – the Rod Lifter and the Split Tube Loader.

The Rod Lifter is a handheld and lightweight tool that allows for proper lifting techniques by keeping the wrist and hand in a neutral position to eliminate strain and protect the fingers from pinch points and sharp surfaces.

It also prevents thread damage and eliminates pipe slippage through the use of a specially designed carbide rod grip.

Split tubes and outer casings can become very sharp and often contain metal burrs, and drillers can often suffer hand lacerations and other injuries, even when wearing proper gloves.

The Split Tube Loader is designed to prevent hand contact with these sharp, jagged edges.

They are designed to fit multiple split tube diameters, and fit comfortably in the hand and keeps fingers away from dangerous contact points.

IsoArc gloves are made from latex with a polychloroprene layer.

The gloves include grip for a firm hold and to reduce hand fatigue.

A chlorinated finish enables easy fitting.

With a bi-colour finish, the flame resistant exterior is finished in a work-safe orange while the natural beige interior provides electrical insulation.

The gloves carry a RC rating, ensuring its resistance to acid, ozone and oil.

It has a usage tension of 1000 volts.

HYDAC high pressure filters for reversibile oil flow

Description

HYDAC is expanding its product range of high pressure filters for reversible oil flow with a filter design which has an Dp-optimized filter head.

The new filter head has been designed with larger cross sections, in order to achieve a reduction in pressure drop. It is available for sizes DFF 330, 500, 660 (one-part and two-part version), 990 and 1320 and serves as an alternative to competitive filters for reversible oil flow such as the Parker filter range 100 P.

Some of the competitors use sleeve valves in their filters which are not completely leak-proof and which allow part of the flow to reach the clean side unfiltered. That means the sleeve valves allow a constant stream of contamination to reach the clean side.

With comparable Dp to competitive filters HYDAC uses poppet valves in the new filter head, which are 100% leak-proof resulting in strict separation between the dirty and clean side.

Advantages

Reliable separation of dirty and clean side through the installation of 100% leak-proof poppet valves in the filter head

Reduction of energy costs through the optimized flow path and the optimized pressure drop

Long service life through the first-class HYDAC filter materials with very high dirt holding capacity and constant Beta-values

Application

Typically used in: plastic injection moulding machines, presses, offshore, steel mills, mining, agricultural technology and generally in applications with high flow volumes.
