MathWorks Announces Release 2010b of the MATLAB and Simulink Product Families

MATHWORKS have announced the release of 2010b (R2010b) expanding the features available to the MATLAB and Simulink Product families.

MathWorks says that the 2010b has tools and features such as; new communications system design capabilities in MATLAB, automated PID controls tuning, GigE vision hardware standard support, and enhanced Simulink and Stateflow support for creating useable models.

R2010b also introduces SimRF, which adds system-level modeling of RF receiver architectures, said MathWorks. This release updates 84 MathWorks products, including Polyspace code verification products.

MathWorks says, updates to MATLAB that support advanced programming include custom enumerated data types, 64-bit integer arithmetic, and a number of enhancements to the development environment.
Mathworks claims other highlights for the Matlab family in the 2010b, are; a parallel computing toolbox, control system toolbox, image acquisition toolbox, communications blockset, and a fixed-income toolbox.

With R2010b, Simulink offers a new signal type and subsystem enhancements that help reduce block counts, simulation time, and memory usage for large models, claims Mathworks. New capabilities for capturing design variants and configurations in Simulink and creating reusable state charts in Stateflow help teams manage design alternatives and reuse large, complex system models.

Highlights noted by MathWorks for the Simulink family in the 2010b are; a Simulink HDL coder:
o New FPGA Workflow Advisor for critical path analysis and automated implementation on Xilinx and Altera FPGAs
o Area-speed optimisations that include resource sharing, streaming, and distributed pipelining
o Support for 42 blocks in Communications Blockset and Signal Processing Blockset
o Support for the DO-254 standard,

Simulink Verification and Validation, SimRf, and Polyspace server C/C++ and Polyspace Server for Ada.
The new release is available immediately and is being provided to users with current subscriptions to MathWorks Software Maintenance Service. Additional information on R2010b product updates is available at http://www.mathworks.com.au/products/new_products/latest_features.html.

MathWorks is the leading developer of mathematical computing software. MATLAB, the language of technical computing, is a programming environment for algorithm development, data analysis, visualisation, and numeric computation.
