DHS Australia releases DeviFlex non-magnetic survey instrument in Australia

DHS Australia says the DeviFlex, a new tool to the Australian drilling industry, can be run in and out of the drill string, either on wire line or conventional, in the same way a core barrel.

The system takes readings at three or four metre intervals, meaning a typical 250 m conventional in and out run survey takes around 90 minutes to complete.

According to DHS, this is a saving of around one hour compared to the MEMS Gyros survey.

In addition, the DeviFlex download time is only two minutes, with results available at the rig and copied to a USB stick.

DHS says the DeviFlex is the most rugged non-magnetic survey instrument on the market.

The DeviFlex tool consists of two independent ‘non gyro’ measuring systems; three accelerometers and four strain gauges are used to calculate inclination and change in azimuth per three or four metre station.

The DeviFlex also records and stores the gravity vector used for quality control, temperature and the 100 hour survey time rechargeable battery capacity, to its onboard memory.

Special controllers are fitted to each DeviFlex, specific to the rod size being used, including BQ, NQ, LTK60 or HQ.

DHS will conduct theoretical and practical training prior to each new rental agreement, ensuring a failsafe directional surveying service.
