Caterpillar launches upgraded skid steer loaders

Caterpillar has released its upgraded B Series 3 skid steer loaders (SSL) and multi terrain loaders (MTL).

These loaders feature a larger engine and more powerful hydraulics, increasing maneuverability.

All B-series 3 models include a redesigned “dead engine lower valve”, single electronic control module (ECM) which has been relocated for improved access.

A heavy duty battery is no also standard for larger models.

The redesigned dead-engine lower valve further promotes safe operation by providing an easier to use method of lowering the lift arms—allowing safe exit for the operator—if the machine should run out of fuel or the engine stall with the lift arms raised.

The long cable and pull-type knob used to activate this system on B-Series 2 models has been replaced in B-Series 3 models with a lever-action handle that acts directly on the hydraulic relief valve.

Cat has also redesigned the 242B3 SSL and 257B3 MTL, adding extra power to the engine and hydraulics.

This allows the small frame loaders to work as larger machines in confined spaces.

The loaders are powered by a Cat C3.4 DIT diesel engine, rated at 53kW and have an increased hydraulic horsepower of nearly 40%.

The loaders have also gained boom and bucket breakout force.

An air mounted air conditioner compressor, which eliminates the hydraulic motor and plumbing needed to drive the compressor, is featured in the loaders.
