All terrain cranes

Manitowoc has launched its latest six-axle all terrain crane, the GMK6400.

The 400 tonne capacity crane features the Mega Wing Lift capacity enhancing attachment, which provides extra support to the boom.

It also has a self rigging system that mounts on the chassis and connects to the boom.

This means that when the boom is operating, the Mega Wing Lift extends laterally to stiffen the boom, allowing it to lift greater loads.

The Mega Wing weighs approximately 10 tonnes and can be transported on a single trailer.

In addition, the GMK6400 features a hybrid drive system for travelling at lower speeds, called the MegaDrive.

While giving better traction on poor surfaces, a lower centre of gravity and less wear and tear, the MegaDrive system works by powering the crane when it is accelerating to speeds of 20 kilometres, after which a conventional drive kicks in.

Due to this, the crane has only one engine.

The GMK6400 motor is the Mercedes OM 502 Tier 4i eight cylinder engine that produces 405kW at 1800 rpm, which powers a ZF AS Tronic 12 Transmission.

The crane’s main boom is 60 metres long with a more rounded top half for better weight to strength ratios. The luffing jib is approximately 79 metres.
