Police have been called to Alcoa’s Pinjarra refinery over claims the AMWU is trying to disturb operations and obstruct traffic trying to enter the site.
The ABC reports that the AMWU had been handing out flyers regarding industrial action by workers at Wagerup, one of five sites – including Pinjarra – where AGC is contracted by Alcoa.
"Union workers were on the main access road and preventing and slowing traffic," Alcoa’s Brian Doy told The ABC.
The AMWU has said that it is trying to distribute flyers related to action at Wagerup, where 30-35 workers were seeking a new EBA.
According to the union, AGC is offering workers a 2 per cent rise in the agreement, and the contractor was “trying to cut the real wages of our hardworking members,” it told the Mandurah Mail.
