Mine engineers make informed decisions on 500-metre orepass remediation, based on accurate condition data.
Petra Diamonds’ Finsch mine site in South Africa, required accurate condition data of orepasses, drawpoints, and raises to decide when to schedule remediation.
With safety at the forefront, management used a uniquely versatile scanning solution that enables data capture in areas which normally would be inaccessible.
With this, it was able to deploy a drone into stope drawpoints and tunnels, scan ore passes with a protective cage and even capture data using a vehicle mounted option to scan level ramps.
After seeing the condition of one orepass, Petra decided against remediation of the asset, saving an estimated five million rand ($423,181).
