Origin’s drilling still suspended after asbestos scare

Drilling is still suspended after Origin uncovered traces of asbestos in its supplier’s drilling mud.

Earlier this month Origin was notified by its drilling fluid supplier Australian Mud Company (AMC), a subsidiary of Imdex, that an imported product NUTPLUG which was occasionally used in drilling fluids was found to contain asbestos.

Following notification Origin immediately suspended operations.

However, according to the Dalby Herald, Origin still has no timeline for when drilling will restart.

“We’re working with several specialist companies to guide our actions, which includes a detailed program of onsite testing,” the spokesman told the Dalby Herald.

“The results of this testing and guidance from these experts will provide the assurance as to when the sites are cleared to resume work in the near future.”
