Yallourn coal mine floods again

The Yallourn brown coal mine in Victoria has again been inundated after nearly  a week of heavy rain.

One coal conveyor has been flooded and will be out of action for at leats three weeks while construction and repair works at the mine have been halted until the water recedes.

Mine operator Energy Australia said coal is being carried to the nearby Yallourn Power Station by another conveyor, ABC reported.

The company said no generating units have been affected.

Last year workers were forced to evacuate after mine flooded.

While in 2008 the mine's northern wall collapsed, which resulted in the nearby Latrobe river flowing into the pit.
