Heavy rains have forced the closure of Xstrata’s Ernest Henry copper mine.
It comes only months after the miner announced it had moved into underground production at Ernest Henry.
The miner was reportedly forced to suspend operations after close to 180 mm of rain fell at the site over two days, according to the ABC.
It damaged critical infrastructure.
However it is unlikely to harm production figures for the year as the mine had already scheduled planned maintenance, and was forced to bring the shutdown period forward.
Queensland has seen heavy downpours, with floodwaters cutting off towns in the Central Queensland region.
