WPG Resources’ Tarcoola gold mine in South Australia officially opened yesterday, one of the state’s newest mines.
Stakeholders, the South Australian Department of State Development, and native title holders were among those who attended the opening.
Work began at the site within two weeks of the decision to mine on November 11.
The project’s development was also boosted by the approval of its Program for Environment Protection and Rehabilitation (PEPR) and lodgement and registration of the mine closure of the $1.76 million rehabilitation bond.
During the time, all contracts were awarded, necessary equipment for the project was mobilised and associated infrastructure was finalised.
The following week staff and contractors were deployed at site.
Tarcoola is in close proximity to WPG’s Challenger gold mine, where its ore will be processed to help reduce operational costs. It has an estimated two to three year mine life.
First ore from Tarcoola is expected to arrive at Challenger within the next few weeks.
