WorleyParsons cuts jobs

Mining and engineering services company WorleyParsons has cut jobs and redeployed staff to help it cope with slowdowns and delays in some parts of the mining sector.

In a statement to The Wall Street Journal WorleyParsons said while its overall workforce had increased in 2012 some "isolated pockets" had been impacted by delays.

The company said some positions had been made redundant and some workers had been moved to other parts of the business.

But it told the WSJ there had been no job cuts related to BHP Billiton's decision to shelve plans for the Olympic Dam expansion.
