THE Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DOCEP) in Western Australia recently released a code of practice on the prevention and management of violence, aggression and bullying at work.

THE Department of Consumer and Employment Protection (DOCEP) in Western Australia recently released a code of practice on the prevention and management of violence, aggression and bullying at work.

The code of practice provides guidance on meeting the requirements of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994 with respect to violence, aggression and bullying as workplace hazards, focusing on their prevention, identification and management.

The code is presented in two parts.

The first deals with workplace violence and aggression, which are actions or incidents that may physically or psychologically harm another person and include situations where workers and others are threatened, attacked or physically assaulted at work.

The second part of the code deals with workplace bullying.

Bullying at work can be defined as repeated unreasonable or inappropriate behaviour directed towards a worker or group of workers that creates a risk to health and safety.
