
A worker has died at Rio Tinto’s Yandicoogina mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia following what the company called a serious incident at the site.
The employee died on Tuesday at the iron ore mine, located around 100km northwest of Newman.
Rio Tinto said emergency services were on the scene and informed relevant authorities. It also said it will aid with the investigations.
According to police, the worker is believed to be aged in his early 50s.
Rio Tinto added that it will provide support to the worker’s family and colleagues.
Police and the department of mines and petroleum are investigating the incident.
